So the first question we ask is not what it should look like, but where the truth lives. Usually the ERP: it already holds your catalogue, your prices, your customer-specific terms and your stock. The store should read from it and write back to it, not keep a second copy that quietly drifts.
Platform or custom
For a straightforward catalogue, an established platform such as Shopify or WooCommerce with a proper ERP integration is usually the right answer, and we will say so rather than selling a build you do not need. Custom becomes right when the pricing is complex, when B2B customers have negotiated terms and credit limits, when the catalogue has configurable products, or when the buying process itself differs from a standard checkout. That is where platforms start needing plugins on plugins, and where a purpose-built store costs less to run than to keep patching.
B2B is not B2C with a login
Business buyers need customer-specific pricing, credit limits, approval flows, order history, repeat ordering, and quantity breaks. Many need to place an order against a purchase order number and settle on terms rather than paying by card.
