Why upgrading is more than a version jump
Most NAV systems have been in place for years and carry a decade of accumulated customizations, some of which nobody remembers requesting. Business Central does not run C/AL code, so every modification has to be reviewed, converted to an AL extension, or consciously dropped. That review is the valuable part. We produce an inventory of every modification in your system with a recommendation for each: convert it, replace it with standard functionality that now exists, or retire it because nothing uses it any more. Companies routinely find that a third of what they were paying to maintain is no longer needed.
How the upgrade runs
We take a copy of your production database and run the whole upgrade on it first, end to end, while your live system carries on untouched. That gives you a working Business Central environment with your real data to test against, and it gives us a rehearsed, timed cut-over rather than a theoretical one. Customizations are rebuilt as AL extensions, which is what makes future updates survivable: extensions sit alongside the base application instead of modifying it, so Microsoft's twice-yearly releases stop being a project of their own. We run UAT with your team, agree the go-live window, and keep the old system available until you are confident.
What you get on the other side
Business Central brings the things NAV could not: a browser and mobile client, built-in Power BI reporting, Power Automate workflows, direct Microsoft 365 integration, and a supported upgrade path that does not require a project every few years. If you are on NAV 2009 or older, you should also know that you are running unsupported software holding your financial records. That is a risk question as much as a functionality one.

Which NAV versions can you upgrade from?
All of them, including NAV 2009 and earlier and the original Navision releases. Older versions may need an intermediate step, which we handle as part of the project rather than as a separate engagement.
How much downtime should we expect?
Typically a weekend. Because we rehearse the full upgrade on a copy of production first, we can tell you the actual measured duration before you commit to a date rather than estimating it.
What happens to customizations we still need?
